14U AA HIGH-PERFORMANCE TEAM
Roger grew up playing youth hockey in Massachusetts, followed by college hockey for Kent State University. Entering his 17th season coaching youth hockey, Gill has been coaching with BHC since 2018-19 and has been a Division Director/AA Head Coach each season. He has held a USA Hockey level 5 Coaching certification since 2009. Roger believes in "challenging myself and my staff to improve on what and how we do things every season by studying today's modern game. Player and team development begins with practicing with a purpose."
12U AA HIGH-PERFORMANCE TEAM
Kirill moves to 12AA this year after coaching 12U Futures last season. He is a master motivator and will call upon his previous coaching experience and his time as a junior & college (Marion College) hockey player to develop his players and provide high-performance skills coaching.

Matt will return as the 10AA Head Coach this season. Huckins has worked professionally as a coach or director for over 25 years. He was the Boulder Hockey Club Hockey Director from 2001-2011, helping take the program to the USA National tournament for multiple years. From 2012-2019 Matt Coached U12/13/14/16 Tier I teams for the RoughRiders winning State and District championships with a National Championship appearance during that time.

Steve Strunk

Coach Strunk grew up in North Central Wisconsin, playing youth and high school hockey. After high school, Strunk played 2 years in the USHL (Junior A) and captained the Madison Capitols. Strunk's continued development earned him a scholarship to play D-I at Colorado College, serving as captain during his senior season. After 4 years of collegiate hockey, he continued his hockey journey playing 5 years of professional hockey in the ECHL, IHL, and AHL. Strunk is also a product of USA hockey, competing in 2 Olympic Festivals and the World University Games.
Coach Strunk has 20+ years of experience instructing and coaching hockey all over the world. He has a passion for sharing his knowledge and love for the game. Strunk has also worked with the German Ice Hockey Federation and coached 18U HS Team to a National Championship.
Goaltending Coaches
Timm Lorenz began coaching as a student mentor while attending the University of Denver. After graduating with a BSBA in Sports Management he started coaching full-time along with continuing to work on the Colorado Avalanche communications staff. As a former goalie himself, he specialized his efforts on developing goaltenders. After working with the Goaltender Development Institute (GDI) under the Vancouver Canucks Goaltending Coach, Ian Clark, Lorenz co-founded In The Crease Goaltending, running camps and clinics.
He is currently in his 7th season as the director of goaltending for the Boulder Hockey Club and his 15th year as the goaltending director for the Rocky Mountain RoughRiders. Prior to this, he gained experience as the goaltending director for Arvada Hockey Association for 9 years and many other coaching experiences including USA Hockey National Festivals and many other Junior and Midget AAA teams around the country.
Lorenz has over 18 years of playing experience, which includes youth hockey at Arvada Hockey Association, high school hockey at Bloomington Jefferson in Minnesota, Junior hockey in the Eastern Junior Hockey League, and college hockey at St. John’s University.

Mark Sample
Goaltending Coach
Mark Sample is currently a goaltending coach and consultant in Denver, Colorado where he works with more than 250 goaltenders and several Midget AAA, Junior A, and professional teams.
He is currently in his 5th season as a goaltending coach with Boulder Hockey.
Throughout his 30+ years of goaltender development, Mark has collaborated with some of today's leading goaltending instructors, including Ian Clark, Vladislav Tretiak, and Ron Grahame. His success as an instructor and developer has made him one of the most popular coaches in the Rocky Mountain area.
Mark holds a Master Level 5 coaching credential through USA hockey.

2025 - 2026 Season Lady RoughRider Coaching Staff
19 /16/ CPHL LADY ROUGHRIDERS TEAM
A native of New Brighton Minnesota, Neil played his youth and high school hockey in the Irondale hockey program. After high school, Neil played four years of collegiate hockey and soccer at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science / Information Systems in 2002. He earned his MBA in Business Administration, Management and Operations from Colorado State University in 2015.
Neil has coached at all youth levels in Colorado for Boulder, Aspen, and the Rocky Mountain RoughRiders Tier 1 program. He also spent four years as the Director of Hockey Operations for the Spokane Americans Youth Hockey Organization before returning to Boulder Hockey in 2020, where he had previously served as Assistant Director of Hockey Operations from 2012-2015.
In the 2022-2023 season, Neil coached the RoughRiders 14U AAA team to a Colorado State Championship. And last season led the BHC 12AA team to the Quebec International Pee Wee Tournament as the Junior Avalanche.
14AA LADY ROUGHRIDERS TEAM
A native of Littleton, Colorado, Julia Volpe began playing hockey at the age of four. She competed at the AA and AAA levels with Colorado Select, the Lady RoughRiders—serving as team captain on five occasions—and Team Colorado AAA. In 2018, she was recruited to play NCAA Division III hockey at Suffolk University in Boston, where she served as an assistant captain during both her junior and senior seasons. She graduated in 2022 with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science.
Since graduating, Julia has coached at various levels, including as an assistant coach for the 12AA and 19AA Lady RoughRiders and the Monarch Coyotes high school team during the 2024–25 season. In spring 2025, she also served as a head coach for the Team Colorado 12AA and 12AAA teams and the Lady RoughRiders 14AA team.
Julia is dedicated to fostering a positive, development-focused environment for her players. Her competitive coaching style emphasizes teamwork, effort, and respect. She is passionate about helping young athletes grow both on and off the ice and is committed to supporting each player in reaching their full potential and achieving their goals in hockey.
12AA LADY ROUGHRIDERS TEAM
Jeff is a Colorado native who began his playing career at Hyland Hills and went on to compete for the University of Colorado. His skill and determination earned him a spot with the Denver Cutthroats of the Central Hockey League (CHL), where he played professionally.
After retiring from professional play, Jeff transitioned into coaching, starting with the Boulder Jr. Bison in the Western States Hockey League (WSHL). His leadership and focus on player development led to his appointment as head coach at the University of Colorado, where he helped mentor and shape the next generation of collegiate athletes.
Jeff holds a Level 4 USA Hockey coaching certification and is known for creating a competitive yet supportive environment that emphasizes growth, effort, and teamwork.
